As we started 2009, we were bombarded with several messages...."Yes we can!" - "Change has come!" - "Change you can believe in!" All of this was brought on by Barack Obama and his political team. Americans were so desperate for change, and the belief that things could be better for them, that they bought into it completely. Even though he has only been in office for 10 days now, let's look at the change we've been given.
Did you notice that on his first day in office, he followed through with his promise to eliminate lobbyist from having a place in his administration. He held a press conference announcing these radical and strict rules for all to abide by. At last count, three lobbyists have been added to senior level positions within the Obama administration - Deputy Secretary of Defense, Chief of Staff for Timothy Geithner - etc.
Obama pledged to change the way Washington works. The House Republicans voted unanimously NOT to support the "porkulus" plan that the Democrats crafted. Now the Senate is about to vote on it. In an effort to shame the Senate Republicans and get them to vote in favor of this plan, Obama's administration is threatening to expose job loss numbers in each of those Senator's home states. I'm curious...the Democrats have a large majority and can pass this plan on their own without any Republicans voting for it. Why are they so worried about having Republican support? Maybe because if it fails, they can't pass the buck to George W. or any of the Republican party?
Did you notice that last Friday afternoon - the prime time to make a decision that will not gather much, if any, news coverage - Obama decided to reverse the decision to provide financial aid to foreign countries for abortions? That's right. While the "economy has never been worse," we just sent $400 million to Mexico to help with abortions there.
What's next? Well, Obama has already said that he is about to make Homosexuals a protected group in America. They will be consider equal in status to African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, etc. Why does this matter? Speak against their lifestyle and it will be considered a hate crime. If your traditional church allows weddings to straight couples, then they - by law - must allow gay weddings to happen as well. If they don't, then it's discrimination.
Change has certainly come. I know for me, it's not the change that I wanted but yet, the change I dreaded. This is just the first 10 days. Only have several hundred more to go before we're given the opportunity to make a change once more.
